Dr. John A. Cunningham is a senior scientist with the Institute for Mental Health Policy Research at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). He is also a Canada Research Chair in addictions, professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Toronto, and honorary professor at the Australian National University.
Areas of Research
Dr. Cunningham works in the intersection between clinical and community prevention research, surveying people who have a drinking problem and exploring the reasons for change with individuals who have recovered. His current focus is problem drinkers who do not seek treatment in a clinical setting. He is modifying well-validated interventions into formats that can be used outside of formal treatment programs, as well as evaluating their effectiveness in a community setting.
