CAMH Redevelopment Update: July 2018

CAMH is committed to keeping our communities, neighbours and staff informed about the progress of the Queen  Street  Redevelopment  Project.

June was a transformative month for the Queen Street Redevelopment Project.  We announced the first five works commissioned as part of our Therapeutic Art Installation Project and after months of excavation and foundation work, we are so excited to see the two new hospital buildings - the McCain Complex Care and Recovery Building and the Crisis and Critical Care Building — really start to take shape. Our vision is becoming reality!

This month, we are planning to finish the concrete pouring and slab work for level 1 (ground floor) for both buildings and being the formwork for level 2. In addition, we will begin some mechanical and electrical piping and continue piping work in the underground tunnels that connect CAMH buildings.

Support

This month, we are sharing an illustration of one of the five projects announced as part of our Therapeutic Art Installation Project. This piece titled Support was created by Dan Bergeron, a visual artist whose work examines, re-imagines and exists in the public landscape. His piece shows a chair in a progressive movement that emulates the journey of recovery for CAMH patients from a vulnerable, horizontal position to a secure, vertical position. In total, there will be 10 installation pieces and 24 standalone pieces that will feature in our two new hospital buildings as part of this innovative art project.
