Before Treatment Begins
To understand what treatment might be most effective for you, CAMH clinicians will meet with you and ask you questions about your current experience and history of treatment. For some patients, this initial assessment will take place in the emergency department, before being admitted to the hospital.
Your CAMH health care providers will develop your integrated care plan with you. They will help you identify your treatment goals and achieve the best results possible as you move through your recovery. Regular reassessments will ensure the course of your treatment stays on track.
If language is a barrier for you or a family member, CAMH can provide the services of a professional interpreter, free of charge, to help during assessments, treatments and consultations. The service is available any day, around the clock. Simply ask a member of your treatment team.
Working Together for Your Recovery
Your treatment team at CAMH will employ a holistic, collaborative approach to ensure all of your needs are being met. From the beginning, we work with you to identify treatment goals and then assemble a care team who can best achieve them.
Depending on your treatment needs, your team may include a number of cross-disciplinary health care providers including psychiatrists and other physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, spiritual and religious caregivers, occupational therapists, recreational therapists, pharmacists, laboratory technologists, dieticians, peer support workers, addiction therapists, and child and youth workers— whatever works best for you.
A Teaching & Research Hospital
Along with providing your care, CAMH also acts as a teaching and research hospital, providing training to the next generation of mental health professionals and actively seeking discoveries to advance the treatment, recovery and understanding of mental illness, including addictions. Cost of Treatment
If you are a resident of Ontario, your treatment at CAMH is likely covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan. Please bring your OHIP card and any private health insurance information.
If you are covered by another provincial health plan, you will need approval from your plan before receiving treatment at CAMH. Please provide your provincial health card and coverage address.
Refugees will be asked to provide proof of refugee status to receive treatment coverage. Recent immigrants who do not yet have a health plan card will be asked to provide proof of your immigration status.
