Who are we?

The overall goal of the H-CARDD program is to monitor and improve the health and health care of people with developmental disabilities through engagement with researchers, policy makers, health care planners, clinicians, adults with developmental disabilities, and caregivers.

Working Together to Deliver a Nationwide Virtual Education Program

In our panel from the Canadian Health and Well-being in Developmental Disabilities Conference 2023, we delve into the experiences and perspectives of various individuals who have played significant roles in co-designing and co-delivering an education program focused on COVID-19 and health for people with developmental disabilities. Our team comprises self-advocates, family caregivers, and health professionals, all collaborating to create a course that empowers and educates. 

H-CARDD dance video series 

Accessible and fun!  Watch these accessible dance videos led by physical activity specialist Dr. Laura St. John. They can be done standing or sitting and include verbal descriptions to assist those who cannot see the movements or benefit from verbal prompts.

Research

Health Care & Developmental Disabilities: Alex, Rob, and Betty discuss how adults with developmental disabilities differ from adults without DD with regard to five important outcomes:

• going to the hospital a lot
• going to the emergency room a lot
• people who stay in hospital longer than they need to
• living in long-term care
• dying before turning 75.

Mindfulness for neurodivergent and autistic adults video series

Mindfulness is a set of tools and ways of being present by connecting with ourselves through different sense awareness tools. The mindfulness tools and information in these videos are not a replacement for therapy.
